Statement of Support for Burma Watch International

Burma Watch Internation is a group of people, including Canadians and people
originally from Burma, who sympathize with and have concern for people suffering
inside Burma. Burma Watch International, A Society for Human Rights, is
incorporated under the Societies Act of the Province of Alberta.

The objectives of Burma Watch International are:
   - To develop among its members a recognition of the importance of human
     rights in the Union of Burma.
   - To promote public awareness of the social, cultural, political and economic
     life of the people in Burma.
   - To promote and provide humanitarian assistance to those in need, especially
     refugees.

In order to achieve the objectives of Burma Watch International members are willing
to work closely with all organizations and individuals who share similar goals of
democratic reforms and human rights in Burma.

In particular, members of Burma Watch International are working with other Burma
Democracy activist groups to try to achieve the release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi
from prison and the establishment of a democratically elected government in Burma.
